Doral 5K: I Finally Have a New Official PR

Today I ran the Doral 5K, which is a small 5K race organized by my city.  The race was literally 1.25 miles from the house.

I had not been feeling well all week, with tons of work and battling a cold that everybody at the office has and I decline to get, LOL.  I also stepped up the Turbo Fire workouts (kickboxing) which left me very sore this week. My hip is even angry at me, the nerve.

So, I woke up not feeling my best, but decided to give it a try.  I wanted to PR, as my last PR is from July 2010 and although I've run better than that, all the races have had issues (short courses, long courses, etc.), so I've been unable to count the PR until now.  Based upon my 5 miler last week, I decided to shoot for 26:30, 1.5 minutes faster than my current PR.

Since it was so close to home, I ran 1.25 to get there, then relaxed until the race began.  I also ran back home and finished 6 miles for the day.

The race is pretty simple, flat, out and back, no curves.  However, it was hot (although not badly, just 71-74F) but super windy (1.5 miles were with a headwind).  You'll see where I got the headwind when you see the paces.  We have 15-25mph winds today.

I pushed on all the way and it felt somewhat easy until I hit the headwind.  I broke my PR by a HUGE margin, crossing the finish line at 26:20 and winning 2nd in my AG.  This is also a course PR by more than 2 minutes (compared to last year).

The results had me as 1st in my AG but there were three people whose AGs were wrong.  I did not know until they called my name for 2nd instead of 1st.  Oh, well.

Mile 2: 8:26mm (headwind started at Mile 1.55)

Cheers to the New Year 5K

I wasn't going to write an RR for this race as I was just running it for fun, but I think I can take some good things from this race enough to write them down. As you know, I had a good late Summer/early Fall races, with times I wasn't even expecting. So it was frustrating to get injured after a fall and to still be dealing with this issue 3 months in. But such is life. A few weeks ago, I ran the Donut 5K Holiday Run and it was not an easy race. I ended up walking it with some friends for a good chunk of the race and couldn't breathe well enough to run it. I've also been having issues with my right leg (the good leg) where I start scuffing the inner toe during my runs. I think I have changed my stride/gait somewhat to accommodate the injured leg. And it has been happening more and more often and during the race it got annoying. For a heel to mid-striker like that, that is weird. 10K at Fort Ben/Gobblers Jog 5K - Dealing with a Weird Injury and the London Marathon

I did not write a race report for my 10K at Fort Ben in October, as it ended up being a bad (and painful) race for me. But since I have some more races done and/or planned, as some updates of this weird injury, I thought of putting those thoughts here. The Injury Two months before the 10K at Fort Ben race, I took Sasha to the vet. Sasha was a COVID adoption that was returned to the Humane Society two years later. She does not do well with other cats (at least she didn't until now) and freaks out whenever we put her on a carrier and take her anywhere. Understandable, as she might think she is being returned. Anyway, I took her for her one year checkup, vaccines, and to discuss medication options for Ms. Freakout. The vet thought Prozac would help her and we got a plan. DTR Endurance 50K: In Which Docket Finally Runs an Ultra

And apparently, because I need to keep my Bad Ass card, I decided to take on a very hard course, oops. After DNS'ing my first ultra last year for asthma reasons and after having to DNS that same ultra again this year because I had a kitty in the hospital and very ill, I signed up for the DTR Endurance 50K, a tough trail race in Stuart, Florida.  While the other ultras were road races, this one was going to be on a trail.  A trail I had never seen until today (the park is 2 hours away from home).  A trail that ended up being tougher than advertised, even though the RD did a great job warning us that it was a tough course and an adventure.  It was both, alright.
