The Machine Keeps Working!

Just after my 10K race yesterday morning, I felt fine.  I also needed to get back on my mileage, due to the cold I had earlier in the week.  So I knew I had to finish 3 more miles last night.  And I did.  Not as fast as usual but still at easy pace.  I also finished the Shred-It Level 1 DVD, so I was pretty tired in the end.

So today I head out for my only 20 miler before my next marathon.  I did not know what to expect because I was tired from the race and had been sick earlier in the week.  But I thought to at least try and if I needed to cut it short I would.  This is my longest run before the marathon and I have no time to do another 20 so it was today or never.

Temps were pretty good at the start: 58F but 87% humidity.  I was sweating and trembling, LOL.  I ran to the park and finished 10 miles there.  I stopped at every 5 miles to eat a Crank Gel (I could do it on the run but why should I?  It's not a race).  At Mile 10 I refilled the water bottle.  And I headed out.  The sun was too bright by then, the heat was coming (low 70s but when you've been running for 2 hours already it gets to you).  I headed back home through another main streets, just to see how it felt like.  It was a good route, very well traveled, so I did not feel in danger at all.

As I looped back home, I did not want to run inside the complex, having run there almost every day.  So, I looped further West until I could get back.  By Mile 15, the legs felt tired...suddenly too tired.  I had to push through not to stop or walk after that.  I never stopped and I'm proud of that, but I was tired!

I finished with a PB for the 18 and 20 miles.  20 miles in 3:42:33.  The only other 3 have been 4:18, 4:01, and 3:55, respectively, but those were in much warmer temps.  Still, 3:42 is great.  Awesome!

Here are the splits.  Again, for some reason, the first mile was super slow.  I was even half asleep, LOL.
